Lions District 2-X2   Opportunities for Youth

Please note this year’s contests will be held online

Eligibility

  • All contests are open to all high school juniors and seniors, including homeschooling.
  • Students can apply for all three contests or pick and choose. 
  • District 2-X2 Youth Contest will be on January 29th starting at 1:00 pm.  Contestants will be sent further instructions once their information has been received as well as a Zoom link before the event. Forms are needed prior to January 15th, 2022. (Do not follow the April dates! This is for our chairperson).
  • To apply, contestants must go to the state website, texaslions.org, (programs, opportunities for youth contest) for complete rules of each contest.
  • All forms and copies of your speech/essays etc need to be emailing to:  lionsouthscholarship@gmail.com.
  • 1st place winners competed original forms will need to be mailed to contest chair the following Monday, January 31st. 1st place winners must also be available for State Zoom contest on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
  • Entry fees will be paid by your sponsoring club.

Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest - No more than 1500 words

“The Importance of Diabetes Education in Texas Schools (K-12) –
A Student’s Perspective”

Diabetes is a growing concern in the USA and around the world. One of the reasons why the incidence of diabetes is rising is because of unawareness. As a society, we should promote awareness, and one way to do this is to educate young people about diabetes. What is diabetes, signs and symptoms, and how diabetes can be prevented and managed?

Drug Awareness Speech Contest - 5 to 7 minute memorized speech

“The Secrets of Vaping Products”

Vaping is still an ongoing problem among youth today. There are many secrets that the vaping world influencers are employing to attract our youth. Please name three (3) different “vapes,” explaining differences, similarities and methods used to advance the use of vaping products. What would you do to help control vaping among your peers?

Outstand Youth Award - 750-1000 word essay + interview

 “Innovation and Change Now”

Covid 19 and the pandemic situation has limited what we used to do. The urgency of change is Now not tomorrow or later. Contestant’s essay should reflect what they are doing Now to effect change and what change they want to see in their community, school, family, for the better. The essay must be well organized, have good vocabulary and conform to required length.
