SFC Jay enlisted in the United States Army 24 April 2008. He completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, GA as an Infantryman (11B). During his career, Sergeant First Class Jay has served in every leadership position from Team Leader to Platoon Sergeant. Sergeant First Class Jay’s previous assignments include: D CO, 1-12 Infantry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as a Team Leader and Tactical Explosive Detector Dog Handler, and completed two combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; Salt Lake City Recruiting Battalion where he served as a Department of the Army selecting Recruiter; A CO, 1-502 Infantry Regiment, Fort Campbell Kentucky, where he served as a Squad leader and Platoon Sergeant, and complete one operational deployment in support of Operation Juniper Shield, Platoon Sergeant for 1st Platoon, Honor Guard Company (Presidential Escort Platoon), 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). His last assignment was as the 41st Sergeant of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. He currently serves as a Military Science Instructor with the ROTC Program at Michigan State University. Sergeant First Class Jay’s military education includes Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, U.S. Army Recruiting School, Air Assault School, and Maneuver Senior Leader Course. Sergeant First Class Jay’s civilian education includes earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Studies through Purdue University Global. He is currently a candidate at Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business Executive MBA Program. His expected graduation is May 2027. Sergeant First Class Jay’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation medal (4 OLC), the Army Achievement medal (2 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terror Service Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with Numeral 2), Army Service Ribbon, NATO ISAF Medal, Overseas Ribbon (2nd Award), Recruiter Identification Badge, Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Identification Badge, the Air Assault badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Expert Infantryman Badge.
