Changing Lives, One Pair at a Time

In just about any dresser drawer, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life.

Lions Recycle for Sight

Pile of used eyeglasses

Throughout the year, Lions in our district collect used eyeglasses through a network of eyeglass collection boxes.  The glasses are counted and then delivered to our regional facility in Wanatah, Indiana.  From there the eyeglasses make there way to the Westville prison where inmates sort, clean, repair, test and package each individual pair of eyeglasses.  Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.  To see the Westville team in action - DOWNLOAD A PDF FILE.

How You Can Help

Conduct an eye screening.  Once you've completed the screening, be sure to report your results on the Vision Screening Stats Report Sheet.  This form is to be used by 25A screenings of adult and children so that  the eyeglass recycling/mission group can use those stats for various purposes.

Download the District 25A Vision Screening Stats Report Sheet.

As Lions we need to spread the word to our communties to let residents know that Lions accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses, empty plastic and metal frames, even broken glasses.  Children's glasses are especially needed!
