UNICEF and Lions Clubs International Foundation: A Powerful Partnership for Children
Around the globe, children face challenges that threaten their survival, development, and well-being.
Whether it’s due to conflict, poverty, disease, or disaster, millions of children lack access to basic
needs such as nutrition, clean water, education, and healthcare. Fortunately, organizations like UNICEF and LCIF are working together to change that reality—and their partnership is making a powerful impact.
UNICEF—the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund—is one of the world’s
leading humanitarian organizations dedicated to protecting the rights of every child, everywhere. Its
mission closely aligns with LCIF’s vision of serving communities and meeting humanitarian needs.
Recognizing their shared values, LCIF and UNICEF have partnered on several global initiatives that
leverage the strengths of both organizations. UNICEF brings unmatched expertise in delivering large-scale, evidence-based programs for children. LCIF, with its expansive network of Lions volunteers and fundraising power, contributes financial support and community outreach to expand these efforts. Over the years, the LCIF-UNICEF partnership has addressed a range of pressing issues, particularly those affecting vulnerable and underserved populations:
• Measles and Rubella Elimination: In one of
their most significant joint efforts, LCIF has
contributed over $30 million since 2010 to support
UNICEF-led measles and rubella vaccination
campaigns. This collaboration has helped protect
hundreds of millions of children across more than 90
countries from deadly diseases.
• SightFirst Initiative – Lions Clubs International
has been instrumental in supporting UNICEF’s efforts
to combat preventable blindness. Through the
SightFirst program, millions of children have received
vision screenings, corrective treatments, and access to
eye care services.
• Disaster Response: When natural disasters strike,
LCIF and UNICEF often coordinate responses to are disproportionately affected. From clean water to education kits, this partnership ensures timely and effective aid.
• Childhood Nutrition and Health: In areas facing food insecurity, LCIF funding has helped UNICEF
implement nutrition and health programs that address malnutrition and promote maternal-child well-being. By leveraging resources, expertise, and global networks, UNICEF and LCIF continue to make a profound impact on children's lives. Their collaboration exemplifies how organizations can unite
for a common cause, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive. As the world faces evolving challenges, this partnership remains a beacon of hope, proving that when communities come together, real change happens.
