DISTRICT N-2
Our district, which includes 70 Lions Clubs with over 1,770 members, includes the province of Nova Scotia, commonly referred to as "Canada's Ocean Playground." Lionism first came to Nova Scotia in 1945 with the chartering of a club in the province's capital, the city of Halifax. We are one of four sub-districts in Multiple District N, the Atlantic provinces of Canada.
The same year clubs were chartered in Dartmouth and Middleton. In 1946, four more clubs were chartered in Bedford, Parrsboro, Shubenacadie and Truro. Lionism moved into Cape Breton in 1948 with the charter of clubs in New Waterford and Sydney,
In the last 12 years we have chartered five new clubs: Chester Basin/New Ross/Chester in 1998; Beaver Bank-Kinsac in 2005; Riverport & District in 2006, Digby & Area in 2009 and Springhill 2011 in 2011. In 2009 a branch of the Meteghan Lions Club was formed in Weymouth.
At one time in the 1970's, Lionism in Nova Scotia included 73 Lions Clubs and over 30 LEO and Lioness Clubs. District N 2 now has two LEO Clubs and seven Lioness Clubs.
We are proud to have had two International Directors from our district who represented Constitutional Area 2 on the LCI Board, PID Len Giffen, Milford & District Lions Club, and PID Jim Sherry, Sackville Lions Club, served the Lions of Nova Scotia with distinction during their terms.
