August 18, 2025 – On Monday August 18, the Oregon Department of Human Services Emergency Management held a regional meeting and site visit to showcase the new “Resilience Hub” in Silverton that was funded through a $300,000 grant awarded to the Silverton Lions Club. Silverton Lion Ward Frederick successfully applied for the grant. Lion Ward’s previous leadership in creating the emergency kitchen that rallied 1600 volunteers and prepared 25,000 meals in the two months after the 2020 canyon wildfires was a significant factor in Silverton Lions Club receiving the grant.

The Silverton Lions Resilience Hub is the largest of several new grant funded hubs around the state. The hubs are prepositioned emergency supplies and equipment to be deployed in response to local disasters. The Silverton hub includes three 40-foot Conex containers filled with food, water, first aid supplies, communication equipment, tents, generators and so on, as well as a large 24 foot by 40 foot heavy duty staging structure between them.

The visitation was preceded by presentations from several levels of officials at the Silverton Lions Club meeting location at Immanuel Lutheran Church, followed by a short walk down the street to the hub located on the Mark Twain Elementary School grounds.

Those present included: Silverton Lions Club members, DG Karen Norton, Silverton Mayor, leaders and cabinet members of the Oregon Department of Human Services, Marion County Emergency Management Director, Marion County Commissioners, Silver Falls School District, Silverton Fire Department, and many more.
